Victor Paulraj is a magician with sets and lighting for theatre productions. I have had the pleasure of working with him on my productions for more than 30 years. His understanding of theatre makes it possible for him to design sets and lighting relevant to the demands of the play and the actors. In short, Victor is a theatre director’s delight.

I have worked with Victor Paulraj for almost 30 years. At an early stage(of every production), I have invited Victor to watch the choreographic process and begin to imagine the way he could PAINT the stage with lights. He suggests the colour and texture of the costume so that his lighting could be better enhanced. His instincts have always been right. His timing and execution, his “feel” for the work on stage, his sense of camaraderie and colleagueship – are all rare qualities in today’s theatre world. Victor and I would work together and ensure that the original intention of the work still carried through. He gets fully involved in every project and is never too tired to learn and grow his craft. His knowledge, through osmosis and sheer hard work, is invaluable to the current generation of dance and theatre artistes.

Victor has been an integral part of all our productions, so much so we would find it hard to imagine
our forthcoming productions without his technical direction. With our theme-based productions the requirement for lighting is very different from conventional dance shows – and Victor’s aesthetics are unparalleled in this domain. Regardless of the auditorium, he is able to accentuate the dance with his lighting, in a subtle yet powerful method. When he is behind the console, the result is magic!
